13-1 Using system Restore.
1.Done, 2. I changed the display, 3. I changed the back ground, 4. I used system restore.
Are the changes still in effect? No. This is because system has restored the system to what it looked like before I made the changes.
13-2 The only thing a non-admin can do in disk Cleanup in the Recycle Bin. This limitation is in place to prevent non-admin's from removing files they do not need to.
Clean up the drive (pg 608.) Using Disk Clean up.
Hmm I just did this in Project 31-2. I used this to remove Downloaded program Files, Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin & the Temporary files. Basically all the junk on the hard drive.De-fragment the Hard Drive (pg.609)
De fragmenting the hard drive is like resorting a file cabinet back in alphabetical order. It puts related files and folders next to each other so the hard drive can access them faster. First you analyze the drive, then DE-fragment it if it is needed.
Disk check (pg. 612)
Disk check basically just check to make sure your hard drive is work. Most of the time you will have to do a disk check of you hard drive before you can defrag the system. To check your disk you goto to properties window then the tools tab and hit the check Now button. This will bring up another window where you need to select a few options, Auto fix & recovery of Bad sectors. You can also use the "chdisk C:/r" command in the command window.
Verify Start-up programs (pg.613)
Often after a computer has been up and running for a while to performance will start to slow down. This could be do to that fact that almost every program we install into our PC these days installs a part of its program to start when the PC starts. To check and edit this you need to goto the System Configuration Utility Start up tab. Here is a list of ALL the programs that start up with your PC. To get this to open just type msconfig in the run box under start fro you desktop bar. This tool is one of the most handy tools. But if you do decide to turn some of these off, just do a few at a time to make sure you don't turn off anything you need. You can also google the program on the list to see what they really are.
Managing hard drive volumes making a new volume. (pg.655)
Managing hard drive volumes making a new volume. (pg.655)
Windows Vista and later allows you to make new hard drive partitions and resizing one. Windows XP and earlier was unable to do this unless you used a third party software like Partition Magic. You can do this neat stuff from the Disk Management. (start, right-click Computer, select Manage, then click Disk Management.)
Backing up user data (pg. 629 & 637)
Backing up user data (pg. 629 & 637)
You can back up user data one of two ways with windows 7 System restore or Complete PC backup. We went over system restore in PJ 13-1. So I decided to use Complete PC backup, since I have this new drive volume from the lab before. Got Control Panel, under System and Maintenance, click BACK up your computer Then just follow the wizard.
